Storyline
| It is not known how the gate came to be, but one day the human world got connected to a world populated with elves, who lived a mediaeval lifestyle and in buildings that matched said lifestyle. The story follows the late teen Yuri, an exchange student from Japan that lives in the elven world. She wanted to meet real life elves and therefore decided to become an exchange student. She now lives in Funou’s otherworld dormitory, together with her best elf friend Mara. |  |
Upon her arrival in the new world Yuri meets Mara, who decides to help her fellow classmate settle in. This leads to them living in the same room, at dorm mother Funou’s dormitory, and for Mara to become Yuri’s tour guide through elvish society and the wonders and mysteries which it contains, one of the mysteries being elf biology. Yuri is seemingly unaware of Mara's growing affections towards her, as she tries to hide these feelings from Yuri, but finds it hard as she often teases and crosses Mara’s boundaries in her moments of energeticness.
As a month passes, we jump to Yuri and Mara in class, Mara in bloomers, trying to convince Yuri to wear some as well, as they make magic training easier. Here we see Tansho for the first time. At first she behaves like the diva of the class as she scolds Mara for causing Yuri trouble. An incident exposes Tansho’s endowment to Yuri, and since she’s very self conscious about her body, Tansho feels humiliated. Neither Mara nor Yuri understand the problem and proceed to make comments that make Tansho furious.
Back at the dormitory Mara talks to Funou about Yuri’s recent homesickness. Here we see for the first time Mara's feelings towards Yuri show, and with help from Funou they cure her homesickness with homemade Miso Soup. To show her gratitude towards them Yuri helps Funou in her mushroom garden. While picking mushrooms Funou says: “You shouldn’t make your lover worried sick again, okay?” 1To this, Yuri explains that she and Mara are just friends since they’re the same gender. In turn, Funou explains that Yuri shouldn’t see elves as being of the same gender as females but rather as a third gender, and therefore says: “Please think over again of how you perceive Mara-san.”2
Days later after a shopping trip, Yuri asks Tansho how she perceives human females? To this she tells Yuri that she’s never really thought about this. Tansho quickly draws a wrong conclusion and assumes that Yuri was confessing to her, which makes her blush strongly. During a visit to the local church Tansho prays for a better body, but is soon interrupted by Mara who’s showing Yuri around town. While Yuri is unaware of Mara’s love-stricken aura, Yuri talks to Tansho about why she’s praying. They talk about her problem and Yuri mentions that the human world might have something that could fix her problem. Tansho hugs her as her faith in a better endowment is once more strengthened.
As summer grows warmer the three friends Yuri, Mara and Tansho decide to visit the Elf Ocean, where Yuri plays in the sun and gets to see the traditional elven bathing suit for the first time. While they have a good time and some of Yuri’s comments about the bathing suit makes Mara happy, their trip does lead to Mara catching a cold, with Yuri taking care of her and telling Mara that she shouldn’t hesitate to ask anything of her. It gets so bad that at some point, she starts to dream vivid dreams about herself and Yuri fooling around together. The day after the dreams, Mara’s cold starts to go away.
Later Tansho is visiting a local accessory shop in hopes of finding a gift for Yuri, who Tansho mistakenly believed had confessed to her days prior. After being caught by Yuri, she decides to wait and buy a gift for her later, for when the time is right.
Tansho hears of Christmas, and gets excited as she believes Santa can help her grow in a certain area. Yuri decides to help keep her belief in Santa alive, by dressing up as Santa on the day of White Christmas. Yuri isn’t able to fulfil either Mara nor Tansho’s wishes, but gives them candy instead. Unfortunately for Yuri, she gets assaulted by a drunk Mara, but she’s too drunk to actually do anything. Later, Yuri scolds Funou for giving Mara alcohol and punishes her by making her dress up in one of her Christmas attires. (New Year’s Eve isn’t shown)
As autumn nears, a row of small events take place. Tansho decides to give Yuri a chocolate gift for Valentine’s Day, which leads to an awkward moment for Tansho. Yuri catches Funou trying on her daughter's new student uniform, giving her the opportunity to tease the older lady. Yuri asks Mara for “Pure White Elvish Water”3, without knowing what it is, which makes Mara blush profusely. And last but not least, Yuri accidentally stumbles upon an adult magazine.
As a new school year starts, Yuri and Mara meet Funou’s daughter, Umanami, for the first time. She calls Yuri her “Yuri-mama”4, as she mistakenly thinks Yuri is in a relationship with her mother. Mara freaks out as she thinks her best friend and love interest has a secret wife and daughter she hasn’t told her about. This is made worse as Umanami threatens Yuri by saying she’d beat her up if she made her mother sad. The day progresses, and as Yuri and Tansho are walking through the halls, they’re stopped by the elf Shinsei from the school discipline committee. She tells Tansho that she’s wearing a troublesome accessory at school, which is against the rules, and therefore she should remove the accessory. The day ends, with both a confused Mara and an embarrassed Tansho, so they walk back to the dormitory to study. Later Mara surprises Yuri in a Halloween costume, this leads to an ‘elf prank’, but it is stopped by Tansho who barges in, before it can go too far.
As the cold sets in, the trio of friends decide to visit an elf hot spring, which is inspired by the Japanese Onsen. While there they stumble into Funou and Umanami, who’ve also decided to take a dip in the cold winter air. As they all relax in the hot spring, Umanami starts to ask Yuri who she thinks has the best breasts among the elves. This makes Yuri profusely blush as the sudden forward nature of everybody involved makes her unable to give them an answer, instead she screams that the hot spring visit is officially over.
The next day Yuri is seen running to the nearby bridge to hide her magazine collection; her trip to the hot spring has made her realise she can’t be keeping such magazines anywhere near either Mara and Tansho nor Umanami. During this relocation Yuri bumps into a famous AV actress who’s pro name is simply AV-san. She’s forward and tries to recruit Yuri, but as Yuri sees yet another elf in little to no attire it makes her run away. Later in the day, Yuri is seen helping Tansho pick a Halloween costume. Halloween passes peacefully, but it frustrates Tansho, as she’s once again unable to tell Yuri her true feelings.
Weeks pass, and Yuri is seen strolling through town before a professor bumps into her. The prof. and her assistant run away before she can tell the prof. that she dropped her glasses. Yuri tries them on and finds out that they are magical glasses that can see through fabric. It leads to an embarrassing event, involving Mara and Tansho, where she sees more than she asked for and realises that she’s begun to see elves in a more lustful way than previously.
Summer is nearing, and it’s the time of year for the school nurse to once again write down her students' body measurements. Mara’s bust has grown, which leads to Tansho saying she’s got Mara beat in the hip area. All measurements are written down without any issues, except for a minor accident involving Mara getting a little too excited during the measuring. As school ends Yuri is asked by Umanami if she’d like to go with her and Funou to see the Elf Ocean, Yuri says no, as she’s already been there with Mara and Tansho, as well as seen the traditional Elvish bathing suits. Umanami doesn’t take no for an answer, and after a little persuasion Yuri accepts her invitation. At the Elf Ocean, Yuri finds out that Funou has history with AV-san, and this time Yuri meets AV-san for real. Umanami is a little confused as AV-san acted as if she and Yuri had met before, which leads Yuri to lie about their first meeting.
New Year’s Eve is upon the elven world, and Yuri can’t get home because the gate has been closed for inspection. Tansho is in her room reading human magazines, in hopes of finding a clue about how to approach Japanese girls. She reads about how a massage can help one’s chest grow, and misunderstanding the text, she asks Yuri if she can massage her endowment. To no one's surprise, the massage ends with Yuri taking a bath and Tansho not growing. After a shower, Yuri is seen reading her own magazine, but is interrupted in the middle of her alone time by none other than AV-san. AV-san tries to recruit Yuri as a fellow employee. AV-san is happy with her performance and leaves a confused Yuri behind to take yet another shower.
Before leaving, Mara asks about what the weird smell is, but walks home for the holidays before she can get an answer from Yuri. That evening Yuri is seen celebrating New Year’s Eve together with Funou, they celebrate while heating themselves with a kotatsu, as the evening drags on they get intimate with one another. Funou is split on the event as she hasn’t felt emotionally attached to anyone like she is with Yuri for many years; Yuri’s own forwardness doesn’t make it any better as Funou is unable to formulate an answer. They don’t get far as Umanami interrupts them afterwards, but leaves them alone after giving her mother a smirk, telling Funou she knows what’s going on.
The next day, Yuri and Umanami are seen in town shopping for new clothes, Umanami tries out human goth lolita attire and Yuri some attire Umanami found for her. Umanami confronts her about yesterday's events and demands that Yuri get closer to her, since she’s gotten so close to her mother. Her aggressive forwardness makes Yuri decline her, but as Umanami tears up, Yuri realises how important to Umanami it is and complies to try and get closer to her too.
One evening, a few days later, Yuri is seen hiding away her magazine collection. She is caught by Mara and confronted about how Yuri is getting closer to Funou and Umanami. Mara tells Yuri that Umanami has been bragging about how Yuri had gotten closer to them recently. Yuri admits to her that she’s also gotten closer to both AV-san and Tansho, this makes Mara furious. They make up after a little arguing and give each other their first kiss, their relationship having progressed further than either of them had ever thought possible.
