Mara (マラ) is an elf from the elven world, who is a student. She is best friends with Yuri, and lives together with her at the dormitory that Funou oversees.
Appearance
Mara has blonde hair that reaches her lower back, and it flows freely. She has a green hairband on, which matches her eye colour, she is rarely seen without it on, and it has a symbol on it. She has fair skin and a 115 cm bust, O-cup in Japanese bra size. In school she wears a sailor uniform, though unlike Yuri, she often wears the uniform outside of school hours.
Personality
She’s an earnest and polite student who’s been raised with respect for others in mind. This can clearly be seen through her interactions with Yuri at the beginning of the story, as she even after a month talks to Yuri as if she’s a coworker of sorts. This barricade of politeness does have its limitations, as her body often speaks on behalf of her emotions towards Yuri. The time she got drunk we also see that she’s more of a wild one behind closed doors if she lets loose.
As she gets closer to Yuri, Mara develops a more forward approach to their relationship as she’s seen taking bigger and bigger risks with Yuri, pushing the depths of their relationship with one another. She is a bit of the jealous type, being down right pissed off as other elves get closer to Yuri than she herself is, or for that matter sees her prioritise others above her, as seen with the Christmas accident involving Tansho. Even if she isn’t happy with this she does suppress her own needs and prioritise Yuri’s happiness above her own needs.
History
She goes to the same school as Yuri and Tansho, and lives at Funou’s dormitory together with them. Mara is a young elf with good manners. She’s an honour student, as she’s polite, and the one to take care of Yuri and integrate her into their society. Her politeness is at times overshadowed by the fact that she’s got little to no control over her own body when she gets excited. This inadvertently becomes the subject of Tansho’s hostility, after triggering Tansho’s size complex. She falls in love with Yuri early on in their relationship, but the lack of progress makes her ask Funou for help; the help, and Funou’s conversation with Yuri awakens feelings that Yuri might not have known she had.
Over time Mara falls deeper in love with Yuri, to the point of hallucinating about her when she was sick, and getting jealous of Tansho when Yuri gives her too much attention. During Christmas this jealousy leads Mara to get alcohol from Funou, and she vents her unfiltered feelings to Yuri, before collapsing due to the alcohol. A new school year starts and with it new shenanigans, Umanami calling Yuri as ”Yuri-mama”, an elf prank during Halloween, a size conversation during a hot spring visit, and an accident during yearly measurement class. After New Year’s Eve, Mara catches Yuri red-handed going through her magazine stash. Mara admits she knows how Yuri feels about elves, confesses her feelings, and persuades Yuri to treat her more favourably.
Relationships
Yuri
Initially Mara thought of Yuri as a very forward human girl, who had a hard time not breaking rules, and crossing boundaries with her friends that she shouldn’t. This forwardness of Yuri causes Mara to see Yuri as a romantic interest. Mara secretly wants Yuri to be closer to her, but she seems to not want to risk their existing friendship to push for romance, opting to wait for Yuri to make a move. However, her body remains ever honest
When Yuri becomes homesick, Mara seeks help from Funou. Funou mistakes the situation and later pushes for Yuri to see Elves in a different light. Mara continues to try and get Yuri’s attention without much luck. However, Mara’s body is a bit too easily excited while she doesn’t make much progress in terms of voicing her desires. During Christmas Mara gets jealous at Yuri’s friendship with Tansho, when Yuri’s visits as santa that night Mara complains about her frustrations to Yuri-Santa, before collapsing in a mess.
Mara’s Reserved nature slowly fades as the other elves: Tansho, Umanami and Funou, force Mara into becoming more daring around Yuri. This can especially be seen during Halloween and their shared visit to the hot spring.
After Umanami brags to Mara about having gotten intimate with Yuri, Mara decides to finally confront Yuri about her feelings for her. She confronts her with the knowledge that she knows Yuri likes elves, and even that Umanami was bragging about them doing things together. After Yuri confesses, Mara sets her boundary that Yuri needs to treat her as well as everybody else she’s seeing, before they mutually affirm their feelings for each other, and give their very first kiss to one another.
Tansho
Mara had a strained relationship with Tansho at first, as Tansho’s jealousy towards her, led for Tansho to raise her voice against her. This jealousy goes both ways when Christmas arrives, Yuri wants to uphold Tansho’s faith in Santa, which in turn makes Mara annoyed as Tansho’s starting to get in the way of her relationship with Yuri.
Besides this fighting over Yuri, they both grow closer as friends while hanging out with Yuri, as seen during their time at school. Their rivalry continues over Yuri, Mara gets especially angry at Yuri sometime after New Year’s Eve, when she learns how Tansho is now closer to Yuri than she is.
Funou
Mara sees Funou as a guardian; when she’s in trouble and needs help, Funou is the one to go to. This is seen when Mara wants to fix Yuri’s homesickness, and when she wants alcohol to calm down her temper at Christmas.
Their relationship slightly goes off track when Yuri meets Funou’s daughter. Plenty of confusion is created as she accidentally thinks that Yuri and Funou have a secret relationship. She goes so far as to shake Yuri to figure out what relationship they have. Again their relationship is tested when Umanami reveals that Yuri and her mom had a private moment together. She confronts Yuri, but rather than be angry at Funou she demands that Yuri treat her in private like she does Funou and the other elves. Their relationship has been tested plenty of times, but still seems like good friends when romance isn’t involved.
Umanami
Umanami first comes across to Mara as chaotic, forward and energetic. When not fighting over Yuri, Mara and Umanami seem to have a laid back relationship to one another, as senpai and kohai.
When fighting over Yuri they both get competitive with one another, even if Mara tries to stay civil in the moment. Umanami brags to Mara about how far she’s gotten in her relationship with Yuri when Yuri isn’t around, Mara is frustrated over this development as she wants to be the closest one to Yuri among the Elves.
AV
Mara and AV-san have never interacted with one another, and it’s unknown if Mara has ever read one of AV-san’ magazines. The only indirect interaction they ever had was when Mara commented that something smelled weird after AV-san had visited Yuri on New Year’s Eve.
